Ideas for first OFFICAL gathering

I want to try and get together with a bunch of us. Give us a chance to brainstorm ideas to make this fly, and just a chance to visit with everyone. I was thinking about a picinic/cruise in of some sort. Any body have any ideas they want to throw out? I was thinking of something on the weekend of July 26th. That should give us enough time to plan and get it all together, as well as clear our schedules. Opinions?

You might want to think about planning it in early August to give folks time to plan ahead.

What kind of thing were you thinking about, a cookout, a cruise to some neat restaurant, what? OOH, know what might be cool? A drive-in movie! I've always wanted to go to one...

Well we were thinking of planning another bon fire/party/bbq here in BC. Perhaps we could set it up there? We still have plenty of wood ;)

We have been tlaking about it for a while (planning another party) but everyone is so busy this summer it's hard to get anyone to commit to anything.

Any ideas?

What dates can we rule out already? I know the weekend of the 4th is camarofest, the weekend of the 26th is the national event. What else am I missing?

Becca...you're the expert on holidays and family gatherings, anything I am missing that you would be celebrating with the family thus disqualifying you from playing? ;)

First and second weekends in August are out. The first is the IHRA event at 131, after that is the Woodward Dream Cruise.

I hearby nominate Becca as the events coordinator. She has a knack for it, and we can feed her the dates and ideas. Do I have anyone who will second that?? I like the idea of of a cruise or a drive in. The only drive in I know of is up by Traverse city. Unless you know of another one. I was thinking a cruise to a state park on the lakeshore somewhere. That way kids can be involved, and we can get some swim action going on. Plus the photo oppurtinuitys are endless. Gotta remember, some of us have kids that want to be involved too. Maybe we can plan on Mikes party as a season ending shin dig, adults only :hump: As always, opinions please.

Unfortunately my racing gets in the way of a lot of summer things so I won't feel too bad if I have to miss, or show up late for something. Anyone else have dates that don't work? I'll edit this post as the thread develops so you all can decide which is the "least worst day" to have a get together!

You're off by a week in August. The IHRA event is on the 9th, and the Dream Cruise is on the 16th.

Unfortunatly a date may have to be picked even when everyone cant make it. We will have many events, and sometimes a date just has to be picked. Just a thought.

True, but we should try and not make it on a weekend where there is something major going on like the CZ28.com national event or the Dream Cruise. I can rearrange my personal schedule as needed, or miss an event, but I'm just saying the big events should be planned around.

I agree Chris, I was just throwing that out in case all else fails. I agree, that the BIG events should not planned over. Too many of us look forward to things like St Ignace and the Dreamcruise to plan a event on one of the big events. Find a week in August and lock it down, and lets plan on that for the big get together for the first offical meeting of Michgian Speed.

I was originally planning on going to the IHRA event but since they moved it to that weekend in August it corresponds with my birthday ( :thumbup: ) and Laura's family vacation ( :thumbdown: ).

Every year Laura's family (parents and 2 sisters/spouses/kids) go up to Tawas for the weekend. It's not really that fun because we have to go to the same damn lighthouse and take pictures, but at least we get some golfing in.

Not to mention that it is about a 4 1/2 hour drive. :banghead:

We brought our own beer last year and had no problem. There was a small army of people at the gas station right off of the highway buying styrafoam coolers, ice and beer.

I can't believe how packed the summer is already. I'll do what I can to help out, but as I said earlier, racing takes up a big chunk of my time.
