View Full Version : My rear window is smashed to smithereens!

Last night I went out to South Haven to see the fireworks. A guy I used to work with and his wife have a house there, and then a condo on the beach that they rent out to people. Turns out a whole buncha people that I know were there. Anyway.

The traffic getting there wasn't bad, but trying to leave was insane. I've never seen so many cars trying to go somewhere all at once in my life. Must be what it's like trying to leave an area when a hurricane is coming. My friends offered that I could just sleep on the couch, but stupid me decided that I should try to go home.

It took me like 45 minutes to get from South Haven to Bangor, a drive that would normally take like 10 minutes. But after Bangor things started moving along a bit, and I thought it wouldn't be so bad.

I was really close to the intersection of M-43 and M-40 when I heard a big boom behind me. I turned around quickly and couldn't see out my rear window, so I pulled off into the parking lot of a Sunoco station. It was like 1:30 or 2:00 am by this time. I got out and looked and my whole rear window is in itty bitty pieces and crackling like a bowl of rice krispies.

It looks like a rock or some other projectile was thrown at it (or shot at it... like a BB gun maybe?) because where the impact spot is, that'd be one magic rock to have just flown there. Some asshole with nothing better to do...

I called home and my dad and brother got up and were coming to get me.
 dad and brother

Meanwhile, there were officers in the intersection directing traffic through, so I went and talked to one of them. He said they'd come take a report from me as soon as they cleared the traffic up. So I went back to my car and waited.

Then an officer pulled in with two other cars, a Camry and a BMW roadster convertible. I went past them a short way back, they had bumped each other in the line of cars but it didn't look to me like anything was wrong with either car. I think the guy in the beamer was just being an ass. But anyway, when the officer was done I asked him if he could help me. He took a report for me and waited with me until my dad and brother came. (I didn't feel very safe waiting alone in the middle of the night. Best not to invite trouble.) He was really nice to me, which meant alot because I was really upset.
 Officer Ferguson

So, amazingly, we were able to get the car home without the rear window caving in. Tomorrow I'll call State Farm and see what's to be done about repairing it. My poor baby!! But at least there's no body damage, and I'm fine (other than being really upset).

Well I saw the Bimmer and Camry on the Camry, but I didn't see any Camaro. Huge bummer, Becca :( . I can't believe people are so insecure that they have to ruin other peoples' nice things.

Really, you were on your way home from there too? Wasn't that traffic insane?!

I am so glad that Mark was the one driving and we were in his car. That was the second year in a row we were out by the pier for the show. It seems like the fireworks are coming straight down on you! Even though we hussled the mile walk back to the well placed car we were stuck for several minutes in South Haven. I don't even want to talk about all the brake lights out on M-43!

We go to Kzoo speedway and watch the races, then they have fireworks every year afterwards. Takes forever to get out, but we usually hang out by the cars and have a few hotdogs and beers while it clears out.

My neighbor is real good friends with the owner of the K-zoo speedway and is their track photographer. He wants to come to 131 sometime when I'm racing to take pictures of my car. He said he could make me a 20"x30" poster of my car with the wheels in the air. That would be cool.

Well if 131 would actually put some VHT down and launching with the 100 or 150 shot it might happen.

Blah blah blah! There's guys out there doing wheelies every night. and not little 3" off the ground hops either. In fact there is one guy in a Nova they call the track tester. The announcer even says "Let's see how we're doing for traction on the line" and then the guy pulls a skybound launch covering the first 60' easily on two wheels..

If he can get traction, or the corvette running 7s all on t&t night, then you guys can too. Drag strips don't cater to radial tire cars ya know ;)

The "track tester", is that the pea-green nova with the white stripes? Not a very attractive color IMO, but man can he launch!! :wow:

Heh, no. The "track tester" is the Pitsch Racing Nova :D He doesn't pull the wheels as much now that he swapped in the Powerglide. :( (And he only gained like a tenth: 10.70s to 10.60s.)

I want The Nova to launch like he used to!!! :smokin:

Wouldn't that require it actually making the trip to the track? ;)

You're right, I was just trying to make excuses to make myself feel better. :(

Actually last Wednesday there was a 1st gen blue Camaro that pulled about a 4' wheelie. It was cool.

Well, yeah. You do know that I plan on racing it eventually, right? And you do know that The Nova got caught in the rain a couple weeks ago, right? It sucked. (No wipers.)
