So a few months ago me and the family went on a lil 3 day vacation. We went to Indianapolis and while there we stopped at this really neat outdoor mall. I was in need of some new jeans and decided that I may as well pick some up. Much to my chagrin I was finding that store after store did not carry my size in pants, a size 40 waist. It was at this moment that I was completely fed up with myself and my glutonous ways. I always knew, as I am sure most people do, that at a bit over 300 lbs I was not only overweight but dangerously so. I decided to take action. I ordered a book from amazon called body rx and read it thoroughly. It gave me the grasp on understanding my body that I needed to get going. I went a bought a 6 month membership at the gym. I began a 3 day workout routine alongside following my new diet.

I started out at 305 lbs and 15 weeks later I am currently at 268 lbs. A current loss of 37 lbs. My goal is to reach 200 lbs. I don't do any cardio and focus solely on strength training. I eat very lean and aim to consume 300 grams of protein per day. I am feeling great and can not wait to rid myself of the rest of this weight.

Congrats on making the change. I can't imagine losing that much weight with only diet and strength training. In order for me to lose, cardio is definitely required.

way to go steve! I'm down to an even 170. I've been running 1.6 miles about 2-3 times per week. I'll up that to 3-4 times per week soon. going to run a 5K on October 24th. I'm signing up at a gym where one of my best friends works out. He's going to start putting me through weight routines. I'm pumped up!!

239 lbs, 66 lbs down. I have lost so much fat that my wedding band now slides off my finger. I have actually lost finger fat. Kinda depressing now to think how long I lived with being so obese.

229 76 lbs gone. Getting pretty close to my goal now. I have also noticed I seem to be able to lose weight easier now without being as strict on the diet. With that I mean I may eat a lil bit more bread than normal or have some pasta here and there and not see it effect me adversely. I'm gonna try and post some before and after pics if I can find any good before pics, I kinda hid from the camera alot when I was big.

I haven't updated this in a while but im currently sitting at 217 which is 88 lbs down. This past weekend i took the family to the great wolf lodge in Traverse City, A year ago I would have been one of the fattest people there. It was nice being relatively smaller than the majority of the people there.

Wow. Almost 100lbs! Even more than the weight though are the activities you can now participate in, and how much better you feel. We've been hitting it pretty hard again too. One of these days (soon) I will run a 5K. Never done that in my life!

I still have not done any cardio on my weight loss venture but have been thinking about starting now that things are getting a bit more stubborn. My wife likes to run and I think it would be a blast to do a 5k with her.

Have you added cardio yet? I have no idea how you are dropping pounds without the calorie burning effects of a good cardio workout. I know that eating well is a huge part but then there is a wall you hit where I don't care how well you eat, the extra weight just doesn't come off. Or maybe that's just me. Lol.

At any rate, awesome work!

Nope still no cardio :) If you run at a calorie deficit you can lose weight without it. The main effect cardio has on weight loss is burning calories, as long as your not taking in an excess anyways you will still be able to lose weight. In an average heavy weightlifting session I am burning about 300-500 calories as is. With that being said I just bought my wife a new treadmill so she can run at home with the kids and when it arrives I plan on making use of it.

If you are building muscle, your body will burn calories without all the cardio

I know all the math but there is a point where cutting calories too low is unhealthy and some calorie burning exercise is required in the equation. Yes muscle will burn calories but it also weighs more than fat so while building muscle your overall weight could actually increase. I guess it all depends on where you're at for if no cardio actually lets you lose weight. However, if your weightlifting workouts burn 300-500 calories I'd argue that they are actually cardio as well as strength training; more of a circuit training approach. I've only monitored it twice but working legs for 30 minutes only burned 72 calories and chest/shoulders for 40 minutes burned 98 calories. Those calculations use heart rate and the minutes count the rest between sets and switching machines. It's amazing how few calories I actually burn when I use heart rate as the calculator whether lifting, running, or in my fitness classes.

on average i run a 250 calorie per day deficit. If you want to burn a ton of calories from lifting do more compund lifts, squats and deadlifts etc. Another tactic I have used when "stalling" is switching my diet. sometimes I use a high protein moderate carbs low fat diet and sometimes i would do a keto diet.
