Alot of us seem to be using bikes as part of our routine.
How about a little challenge to motivate each other?

How many miles in 20 minutes?

I'll go first

5.75 miles in 20:09 minutes.

Typically 6 miles in 30 minutes for me. It's been a while since I had time though. And, I don't go over 30 minutes. That's about as much as my butt can take.

Did 30 minutes last night, just over 9 miles. Heart rate interval training kicked my ass.

At what resistance setting? My recumbant has 1-5 and with the new hips I only do 1.5miles @ 2 in 7.5 minutes.

Al,
Thats pretty good. The bike is a excelllent way to strengthen and protect
your hips ( my Dad's had 4 or 5 of them).

Resistance is up to the biker. I am at 3 of 7 when I can bust 6 in 20
I will move up to 4 and start again.

I hope the quality of your life has improved with your new hips.

Bikes at my gym take resistance into consideration when calculating mileage. I set it to the weight loss program which lasts 27 minutes (I think) and has 3 hills. If you don't pay attention to when it yells at you to slow down the resistance does not increase as much and your distance will be lower in the end. There is also a warm up and a cool down. The program does not start until your heart rate hits 105 (or 3 minutes if your heart rate doesn't increase enough), then it runs for 27 minutes, then you have a cool down which is actually 6 minutes. I tend to hop on after class so it bypasses the warm up. After the program I go 3 minutes into the cool down to hit 30 minutes and I shoot for an average speed of 12mph which gives me my 6 miles in 30 minutes. I like the variations the program goes through.

i can usually make it from cedar springs to rockford in about 35-40 minutes its about 7 miles.

keep in mind i could do it faster if the front gear chain slider wasn't rusted shut on the middle gear.

first try, 5.7 miles in 20 minutes. kicked my ass.

I do notice the different levels change the perceived mph on the readout though...
