This could have been easily avoided if some parent, I dont care which one, had conditioned their child to fear and respect that escalator!

I get to go up and down the stairs 3 times after work today. I'll be carrying 80lbs of salt down on each trip. Unless my hands cant take it... then I'll go up and down the stairs 6 times carrying 40lbs for each down trip. Ooh. Add one more trip to get the new storage rack down there too.

My knees would never take it. I am hoping once I get 25% of my body weight off them they will start getting better.
There is actually an escalator type machine at the YMCA here. Instead of a 'stairmaster' type machine it has actual stairs on a continuous loop like an escalator.

I've seen those in the gyms we visited. I even saw one chick using one a few weeks ago. It just does not look fun. I have bad knees too. Have had bad knees since marching in high school.

Elevators ARE far superior.
and to top it off, some people are afraid of elevator's; but I bet waaaaayyyyy more people are killed on the stairs than in an elevator.
heart attacks and falling ya know?

I still prefer elevators, though I try to even out my stair usage with my lift usage.
But if it's over 2 stories? I'm a button pusher!

Really long escalators freak me out. I feel like if I get near the top, and fall down, I may just fall forever.

Related note: the flat people-mover moving walkways they have at airports are fun. I usually try and sit and wait for planes near the end of one because there are always people that fuckin BITE IT at the end because they weren't paying attention.
I LOVE watching them bite it too, that is the best.
Escalators that are big remind me of that mountian climber game on the price is right. I always start whistling the theme when I am on them. Sadly, Drew Carey is never there when I get to the top to share a pie with. I love pie

Saw someone at Newark on the way to customs. Was practically power-walking on the moving walkway. Didn't pace it out good enough and took a spill.
I laughed at him as I walked by. Idiot.
