View Full Version : Bringing my boat back to life
Decided that it's time I get my boat out, it's been sitting next to my house for 7 years now. Today I went out and evaluated the situation. Needs some TLC but all in all it's in pretty good shape. I hooked a battery up, hooked the garden hose up, and shot some ether down the carb and the 4 banger roared back to life with no fuss, actually it immeidatly fired and stayed running but the 7 year old gas didn't permit it to idle, had to keep the throttle open slightly. No big deal, not much fuel left in it so I'll mix in my Camaro's old race fuel and top the tanks off with some fresh fuel.
Need to get the trailer plated, insurance, boat reg, new tires, replace the trailer power connector, clean the boat, change all the fluids, and restore the gelcoat. Goal is to be on the lake Saturday morning. Also need a new reciever on the Suburban.
Pics coming soon!
Well nobody cares, but I rebuilt the carb today, installed a new ignition system, replaced a bunch of rusted and worn out parts on the trailer, and did some work to the gel coat. Goal is to test the boat out on Thursday. Got the insurance on it today along with tags and the trailer got a new plate, since the last time it was plated was 2001. I'll snap some in progress pics today.

still waiting for the pics.
lol
what kind of boat is it?
Awesome Joe, you going to be able to make Hot Boat with us this year?
And if your feeling spunky, I have the carb kit but no idea how to rebuild a carb :heyhey:
As for the gelcoat, get some VERY fine compound and a buffer, that is by far the easiest way to do it.
Ordered up new gauges last night!

Nope, I really badly wanted the Gaffrig II gauges but Livorsi sued Gaffrig because they already made a guage that looked exactly like the Gaffrig II but theirs was called the Livorsi II. I know you got them on your boat, so take good care of them because they're getting really hard to find and when you do find them they're usually damn expensive.
Mine are made by Teleflex, it was less then $200 for the whole set. My boat is so old and unvaluable that it wasn't worth putting big money into.
Teleflex is still good stuff, that is what came factory in mine honestly.
Yup, Teleflex has been in the business a long time, I don't think they'd make a crummy product.

I've seen the pics, and they look good; I can't believe how much better the gelcoat looks!
I like those gauges too.
