Yesterday two friends and myself rode the bikes from Haslett over to the DTE Energy Music Theatre to see RUSH in concert. We left about 3:30 PM and zig-zagged our way across the state through southern Genesee county, through Linden, Fenton, and into Clarkston. Silver Lake road, most of the way. It was an awesome day for a ride. We got to see a lot of scenery, including a few lakes. There were two detours that we had to deal with, including one in Fenton where the road was closed due to tornado damage.
The concert was, in a word, classy. RUSH had a minimalist stage with an extensive lighting system, plus a backdrop with three big screens. Geddy's stage props were three commerrcial chicken roasters that were roasting chickens (assumed to be props as well), plus an occasional french chef who would walk across the stage during a song to check the chickens. Alex had a stage full of miniature dinosaurs stacked on top of his Marshalls.
With a repotoire of almost 180 songs to choose from, it was an interesting mix of songs that were sourced from their early to mid-1980's albums, plus a couple from the earlier records, and most of the songs from their latest album, Snakes and Arrows. They opened the show with Limelight, and closed the show with Passage to Bankok, the only drug song I think they ever recorded.
A perfect night, all in all.
