This is one of the projects that I want to attempt in 2007: The assembly and street certification of a Kawasaki KX500 Supermotard. I haven't begun saving for it yet, and wont start buying things until all credit debt is ABOLISHED from our household, the Trans Am is back in comission, and we have our emergency fund fully funded. However, once that is done, I think the Supermotard will be the next project.
How much fun will it be to have 75 horsepower in a 220 pound machine with license plates?? ....roll-on wheelies in gears one through four....
Waaa!! Waaa~~~Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

That would be a lot of fun, I've been thinking about selling my YZ to get my friends 2000 KDX

2000 KDX would rock.
I've been keeping my eyes open, and if I run across a good KDX250 I might jump on something like that. If I run across a 1984 or 1985 Yamaha IT490 I'd grab that one fast, too, then hold on: It was about 45 HP in a 230 pound bike. That's about 8 or 9 HP/lb. when the bike is fully loaded.

Ugh.
I shouldn't have been looking.
However, I found the machine, it's located in Wisconsin.
It's a 2002 Kawasaki KX500 for $2150, used only for ice racing. It'd make the perfect bike, but if I spend the money, then I have to let the Trans Am sit idle for half the summer.
What's a fellow to do?:dunno:

Appetite wetter!
Suzuki Super Moto DRZ 400 SM (2005) - $4900
"400cc 4-stroke. Purchased new in summer 2005. Recent updates include: Yoshimura exhaust pipe, jetted with dyno-jet jet kit, Pro-Taper SE handle bars (CR-HI bend) and Cycra pro-bend hand guards. Bike is scrapped a little on the right-hand side (front fender, right handguard, right side panel, and pipe). Take a look at the pictures…it still looks great. Email with any questions....come take a look and a test ride."

Nice!
'05 Suzuki DRZ-400 SM - $4250
4110 Miles. Excellent Condition. I love this bike, but I have to get rid of it due to financial issues. It runs perfectly, not a thing wrong with it. I put the stock turn signals and tail light back on it since the photos were taken. Email me with any questions.

Got Spark?
Got Fuel?
Got Compression?

Yep. Spark is good, new plug too. Drained the fuel and put a new mix in. Carb has been cleaned and set to stock specs. Motor is new and has been broken in, plenty of compression. Parked the bike a few months ago, ran like a champ...now we can only get it running for 10 seconds tops. Next step is to clean out the pipe and put new wrap in the silencer.

It may be running out of fuel or the spark could be dying.
Spray in some WD40 as it sounds like it starts to cut out. The added fuel of the WD40 will let you know if you have a carberation/fueling issue.
Unless the pipe is totally blocked, its ok. If you can feel air coming out of it when it runs thens its not blocked.

I will try the WD40 trick. I should probably go through all the wiring again, make sure the grounds are good. Maybe check out the stator and magneto too.

Pull out the plug and ground its base to the engine block and make sure you have spark.
Sorry for the thread hijack.... Why not start a new thread Mike, this forum could use posts!

:wow:
Those bikes are so cool.
...and yes, two-strokers have been registered in the state of Michigan, assuming you can make it quiet, relatively smoke-free, and somewhat unassuming for the police officer when he goes to sign off on the safety inspection.
It's another issue altogether with respect to meeting EPA regulations but since that is a separate department wholly unconnected to Michigan DMV, it is only an issue if you are noticed by members of the EPA.
Aw, I really want this bike, but I want my Trans Am even more. I miss driving it.

I think so, Justin. You need to get the forms from the sec. state website, and it's a whole checklist for the officer to go through. Once he's filled it out and validated it, you can take it and the title into the sec. state and get plates.
